crypto-price-tracker

A crypto price tracker shows the current price, recent change, and holding value of cryptocurrencies — Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and other major coins — supporting a watchlist of the coins you care about and a portfolio view that multiplies your holdings by current price. The ZTools Crypto Price Tracker runs entirely in the browser, can pull from public APIs (CoinGecko, etc.) or accept manual price inputs, persists your watchlist locally, and is strictly educational — crypto is a high-volatility, high-risk asset class, no calculator output is financial advice, and past performance does not predict future returns; never invest more than you can lose.

Use cases

Quick price check

Curiosity glance at BTC and ETH prices without opening a brokerage app. One quick read, return to other work.

Watchlist of coins you follow

Maintain a list of, say, 10 coins; see them all at once with 24h change in one view.

Portfolio value estimate

Enter your holdings; calculator multiplies by current price for a quick total. Snapshot, not a real-time exchange dashboard.

Educational reference for new investors

Learn what tickers map to which coins; see how volatile prices are over a few weeks of casual checking.

How it works

  1. Add coins to watchlist — Type ticker (BTC, ETH, SOL) or name (Bitcoin, Ethereum). Watchlist persists locally.
  2. Pull or enter prices — API mode pulls from a public endpoint. Manual mode lets you paste current prices.
  3. View 24h change — Per-coin price + percentage change.
  4. Optional portfolio view — Add holdings (units owned per coin); calculator shows current value per coin and total portfolio value.
  5. Refresh — On-demand or auto-refresh every minute. Network usage minimal.

Examples

Input: Watchlist: BTC, ETH, SOL

Output: Three rows showing live prices and 24h % change

Input: Holdings: 0.5 BTC, 5 ETH, 50 SOL at current prices

Output: Per-coin value + grand total

Input: Snapshot for journaling

Output: CSV export of current prices and holdings

Frequently asked questions

Is this financial advice?

No. This is a price tracker for personal information. Do not make trading decisions based on calculator output. For real investment decisions, consult a licensed financial advisor.

Are the prices real-time?

Approximately — public APIs typically refresh every 30–60 seconds. For real-time trading, use a brokerage app, not a free tracker.

How do I avoid scam coins?

Stick to established coins (BTC, ETH, top 50 by market cap). Anything new with a celebrity-backed launch is overwhelmingly likely to be a scam or pump-and-dump.

Is crypto a good investment?

High-risk. Some have made life-changing returns; many more have lost everything. Allocate only what you can afford to lose; never invest borrowed money in crypto.

Can I track NFTs / DeFi positions?

No — the tracker handles spot crypto prices only. NFT and DeFi positions require specialised tools that integrate with your wallet.

Where are my holdings stored?

Locally in the browser. The tracker never accesses an actual wallet; it is a price-display tool.

Tips

  • Treat crypto as a small, speculative slice of a diversified portfolio — never your retirement.
  • For major coins, dollar-cost averaging into spot positions has historically been less stressful than timing the market.
  • Cold-storage your holdings — exchange hacks have lost hundreds of millions over the years.
  • Beware tax obligations — crypto trades trigger capital-gains events in most jurisdictions.
  • When in doubt, do not buy — crypto FOMO costs more money than it has ever made.
