bio-generator

A bio is the short blurb on your social profile β€” Instagram (150 chars), Twitter (160), TikTok (80), LinkedIn (220 in headline + 2,000 in About). A good bio answers "who are you, what do you do, why should I follow?" in one breath. The ZTools Bio Generator gives you platform-aware templates, character counters, emoji-friendly formatting, and copy-paste-ready outputs. Pick a role (creator, founder, developer, designer), add keywords, optionally add a CTA β€” generator stitches them into a tight bio that fits the platform's limit.

Use cases

Refresh an Instagram bio

Old bio reads like a CV. Generator gives a punchier 150-char version with line breaks and one CTA emoji.

Twitter bio for a side project

Need a bio that signals "indie hacker building a SaaS" in 160 chars. Templates start there and fine-tune.

LinkedIn headline (220 chars)

A headline isn't a job title. Generator phrases yours as "I help X do Y" β€” much higher inbound message rate than "Senior Engineer at Acme".

TikTok / Threads bio (short)

80-char limits force ruthless editing. Generator outputs three options at 80 chars; pick the strongest.

How it works

  1. Pick platform β€” Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn (headline + about), TikTok, Threads, YouTube. Each has its own char limit and conventions.
  2. Add inputs β€” Role (creator, founder, designer, dev, marketer, student), focus areas (3-5 keywords), one optional CTA (link, email, "DM me").
  3. Generate options β€” Three to five draft bios per run, each within the platform's limit. Mix of formal, casual, emoji-heavy.
  4. Edit and copy β€” Tweak inline. Char counter shows remaining budget. One-click copy.

Examples

Input: Platform: Instagram, role: photographer, focus: portraits + nature

Output: "πŸ“Έ Portraits + nature\nLagos β†’ wherever the light is\nπŸ‘‡ Latest series" (96 chars; line breaks render).

Input: Platform: LinkedIn headline, role: founder, focus: SaaS for nonprofits

Output: "Founder @ Civic β€” building a CRM that nonprofits can actually afford. We hire smart." (94 chars of 220.)

Input: Platform: Twitter, role: indie dev, focus: typescript + design

Output: "Indie dev. Building tools for people who hate bad UI.\nTS, Vue, Tailwind. Currently: zero-cost SaaS.\nπŸ‘‹ dm open" (118 of 160.)

Frequently asked questions

Should I use emoji?

Sparingly on LinkedIn, freely on Instagram / TikTok. One or two emoji as visual anchors usually outperform none; a wall of emoji underperforms both.

Will my bio rank in search?

Some platforms (Instagram, TikTok) index bio text for in-app search. Including 1-2 keywords your audience searches for helps. Don't keyword-stuff β€” readability wins.

Does it support line breaks?

Instagram, Twitter web, LinkedIn About β€” yes. TikTok bio β€” no, all collapses to one line. Generator warns when line breaks are unsupported.

What about hashtags in bio?

Instagram supports clickable hashtags in bio (max 30); Twitter supports them but they don't link by default. Use sparingly β€” 1-3 max.

Tips

  • Lead with the strongest signal: role > company > geography > hobbies. The first 50 chars do most of the work.
  • One concrete number ("10k subscribers", "shipped 5 SaaS apps") beats five vague adjectives.
  • For LinkedIn, "I help X do Y" headlines outperform job-title-only by 2-3x message volume (per anecdotal LinkedIn marketing studies).
  • Test variants β€” bios are cheap to swap, and even small tweaks shift profile-visit-to-follow conversion.
