How it works​

  1. Take or upload photo — Front-facing selfie, even lighting, neutral expression, eyes open, mouth closed.
  2. Pick country preset — US, UK, Schengen (EU), India, Canada, Australia, Japan, +30 more. Each loads exact dimensions and head-size requirements.
  3. Auto-crop to head/shoulders — Face detection aligns the crop; manual fine-tune available.
  4. Background swap — Auto-detect and replace with white / off-white / light-blue (per country requirement).
  5. Lay out print sheet — 4×6 in or 10×15 cm sheet with 4 or 6 copies arranged for kiosk printing.

Frequently asked questions​

Will it pass government inspection?

Compliance depends on lighting / pose / expression — the tool handles dimensions, background, and crop. If the source photo has shadows / wrong expression / closed eyes, no tool fixes that. Take care with the original.

What lighting do I need?

Even soft light, no harsh shadows. Stand 2 feet from a window with curtains drawn (diffused daylight). Avoid direct sun, ceiling spotlights, or single-source lamps.

Is the background removal AI?

Yes — uses an in-browser ML model (≈10 MB) for foreground/background segmentation. No upload, runs locally.

Can I print at home?

Yes if your printer does 300 DPI on photo paper. Otherwise, email to a photo lab or take to a kiosk (CVS, Walgreens, FedEx) — print 4×6 sheets at $0.10–0.30 each.

Why does my head look the wrong size?

Each country has strict head-height-to-frame ratio. Use the on-screen overlay guide; if your photo doesn't fit, retake from closer or farther distance.

Are smiles allowed?

Most countries require neutral expression with mouth closed. Some allow slight smiles (US, UK lenient; Schengen strict). Check the country preset's notes.

Tips​

  • Even diffused daylight from a window gives the best result; avoid overhead spotlights.
  • Wear a contrasting color shirt (don't wear white if background is white).
  • Eyes open, mouth closed, neutral expression, looking straight at the camera.
  • Print on glossy photo paper; matte paper looks "wrong" against IDs and passports.
  • Check your country's exact spec — some require eyeglasses off, no head coverings, full ear visibility.
